Darren Aronofsky To Direct Suprman Re-Boot? With Portman?

"Yes, I do know my moustache is sexy."

Superman suffered an embarrassingly bad remake in 2006. Now one of the best young directors has a chance to bring Superman back to his former glory, but is this a match that can really work out?

Aronofsky has an incredible ability to bring characters to life on the big screen. From youth who couldn’t give up drugs (Requiem For a Dream) to a wrestler that couldn’t give up his only true love (The Wrestler), Aronofsky makes us see ourselves in characters we have nothing in common with. He does this with his  amazing storytelling ability and knows what style best matches the content of his films. The Wrestler was shot in super 16 for a grainy Doc style look, and Requiem has its distorted sence of time and reality achieved through clever editing.  What would Aronofsky do with Superman?

If the Studio (WB)  just wanted a Blockbuster action film, I can think of about 100 directors they could have picked first. So why Darren? Is it possible that the studio wants to turn Superman into something more that an action filled shit storm? If given enough control, I could see Darren turning Superman into a whole new hero, a little less invincible, and a lot more human. I don’t know if I want Aronofsky to direct Superman, but I have to say it would be a new challenge for a director who has already mastered dramas.

Natalie Portman would star as Lois Lane if Aronofsky does accept. Christopher Nolan is producing and wants to get the film started ASAP. WB Studios loses the rights to Superman if not out by 2012. Look for an official announcement within the next two weeks.
