Announcing The 2011 NY/SF International Children’s Film Festival

The NY/SF International Children’s Film Festival is just around the corner (Oct 21 – Oct 23), and the best part about it is – it’s not just for kids!  Sure, most of the films are geared for the younger crowd, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be features to satisfy the kid inside us all.

Perusing the line-up, I see a few that standout as potentially being worthwhile.  I find that the short film blocks tend to be the safest bet.  Chances are that if there’s a short you don’t like, you never have to wait too long for the next one to begin.  The one that I highly recommend is the Kid Flix Mix.  This one features one of the best and most popular shorts from last year’s Animation Festival, Mobile.  Fans of those shorts seen at before Pixar’s features will be more than pleased with this story of a few minutes in the life of a child’s mobile.  As far as feature-length goes, the German stop-motion adventure, Sandman and the Lost Sand of Dreams, which takes place in a nocturnal dreamland and features the creator of nightmares looks to me to have the most promise.

All films will be shown at SFFS/New People Cinema and the Premier Theater, Letterman Digital Arts Center.  Check out the schedule and ticket info after the jump and be sure to check back with us the week leading up to the festival for some spoiler-free reviews of the films.
