Berlin & Beyond 2011: The Fatherless Review & Trailer

The Fatherless tells the story of the aftermath of a free love compound. When the leader of the former compound dies his four grown children all reunite for the first time in over 20 years and are forced to deal with their conflicted feelings about their father and their childhood.

This family-centered drama kept me entertained throughout but it never blew me away. As secrets start to come out and emotional strings are pulled I found myself interested enough to continue watching while still not really caring about the outcome or any of the characters. Sometimes this ruins a film but in this case it didn’t kill the experience. The realistic writing of the characters helped me keep connected with the story which didn’t excite me and well-timed humor kept me wanting more. If you are a fan of unorthodox family dramas you will want to check this one out. For the trailer and show times follow the jump.
